• Full Mouth Restoration

  How is full-mouth restoration different from a smile makeover? In order to be true “artists of the smile,” we look at the entire mouth and not just the visible teeth. This treatment may require neuromuscular therapy, or bite correction, to correct the cause of cracked, broken, missing, or crooked teeth. Full-mouth restoration combines our expertise in both neuromuscular and cosmetic dentistry for a healthy and natural smile that will last. How does full-mouth restoration work? The treatment techniques and length will vary between patients, but the first step is always a comprehensive dental exam. Before we can plan restorative dentistry, it’s important to assess your dental health. In some instances, patients require neuromuscular dentistry to address pain and worn teeth from grinding. It’s important to address these issues before cosmetic dentistry can begin so that your new smile is comfortable and everlasting. Is full-mouth restoration painful? In most instances, the treatments used in full-mouth restoration are painless, and our patients are extremely comfortable before, during, and after they visit our office. • Porcelain Veneers

  Porcelain veneers, or porcelain laminates, are the pinnacle of aesthetic cosmetic dentistry, and can enhance your smile in many different ways. We can use veneers to correct horizontal abnormalities, where the teeth are crooked or gapped, and also to correct vertical abnormalities or “gummy” smiles. Porcelain veneers are an excellent alternative to painful and expensive orthodontics, and can enhance the shape, size, and contour of each individual tooth in as little as two visits.

• Dental Implants

  A dental implant is meant to replace teeth that are lost or missing. Each implant consists of a fake tooth, and a biocompatible “root” made from titanium that is attached to the bone – just like a natural tooth. Dental implants can be applied to replace one or two missing teeth, an entire arch of teeth, and even an entire smile. Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth, and provide a very strong foundation for new teeth in the jawbone. When the root is not replaced from a missing tooth, the jawbone sinks where the tooth used to be and can shrink the bone. This is known as “bone resorption,” which alters the entire shape of your face and makes you look older. Dentures typically become loose as your jawbone shrinks, and your gums recede. Dental implants are permanent, and allow you to bite, chew, and smile efficiently. For maximum effect, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative dental procedures.

• TMJ & Neuromuscular Dentistry

  TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, is a painful condition in which the temporomandibular joint, the main joint in the mouth, is overworked or misaligned. It can lead to headaches, oral and neck pain, and difficulty opening and closing the mouth. Many patients describe an audible popping or clicking sound when yawning or chewing. Unfortunately, these symptoms are often mistaken for stress. Dr. Frey is a leading expert in neuromuscular dentistry, which emphasizes the importance of the position of the jaw, teeth, and surrounding tissues, and has treated hundreds of patients with persistent pain from TMJ disorder. The treatment is divided into two phases: curing the symptoms of TMJ disorder, and preserving the results of the treatment with cosmetic and restorative dentistry. In phase one, a TENS machine is used to locate your jaw’s most relaxed natural position. We call this the “physiological resting position.” This machine will de-program overworked jaw muscles with tiny, relaxing electrical impulses. We then capture this position with high-quality molding material, and realign your bite into the optimal, relaxed, position. You will then wear a custom shaped orthotic to rehabilitate the jaw muscles. Don’t worry, the orthotic rests atop your existing teeth and looks perfectly natural. It will not alter your speech, and no one will notice you’re wearing it. Almost immediately, and more so as your muscles acclimate, you will notice that headaches, back and neck pain, ringing in the ears, vertigo, and many other symptoms associated with TMJ will disappear. Phase two of the treatment begins once you’re completely comfortable with your new bite. In order to sustain the results of your TMJ treatment, Dr. Frey may recommend additional cosmetic dental procedures as part of a full-mouth rehabilitation plan. For example, dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth, preventing recession of the jawbone.

• Neuromuscular Orthodontics

  Neuromuscular or Orthopedic orthodontics is an option for Phase 2 (making the jaw healthy permanently) of our treatment for TMJ disorders. Placing the word Neuro-muscular or Orthopedic in front of the word Orthodontics means that we are not just straightening teeth, we are doing so much more! We are increasing the volume of air that goes down the throat, we are aligning the vertebrae in the neck to be in-line with the dental arches of the teeth, we are enabling patients to breathe more comfortably through their nose, we are making sure that your jaw joints do not click crack or pop and have sufficient space to open and close smoothly. How do we do all this you ask? Keep reading. Why Is Orthopedic Or Neuromuscular Orthodontics The Final Stage In Curing Or Ending TMJ? Phase 2 TMJ therapy utilizing orthodontics can come into play. The goal is to maintain the correct position/bite without the continuing need for a Phase 1 TMJ orthotic device. Neuromuscular orthodontics can move the teeth to make this new found corrected position permanent! Often this involves widening and bringing forward the upper and lower teeth arches that will actually grows bone 3 dimensionally in the upper jaw. This is upper arch development is usually accomplished with a fixed upper orthodontic appliance called a FAGGA. Again, the goal is to permanently move the teeth into the position that physiologically correct for your head and neck and posture.

• Anterior Guided Growth Appliances

  Anterior Guided Growth Appliances Also referred to as AGGA, the Anterior Guided Growth Appliance is used to correct damage done due to a misaligned jaw and a bad bite. There are two different types of anterior guided growth appliances: fixed (FAGGA) and removable (RAGGA). Both growth appliances meet the same goal, but the logistics are where they differ. Fixed: this growth appliance is the best treatment option for adults who suffer from sleep apnea, breathing issues, and most commonly, severe TMJ. FAGGA is able to open the airways by expanding the upper jaw, allowing for relief for breathing. FAGGA may also improve facial appearances as well. Removable: this growth appliance is best recommended for children who have yet to grow their full set of adult teeth. This appliance works much like a retainer, however instead of keeping the teeth in place, it expands the jaw similarly to a palate expander. This creates enough space in the mouth for the child’s adult teeth to erupt without overlap.
