• Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

  Eyelid surgery, commonly known as an “eyelid lift” and clinically referred to as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the eye area. During the procedure, the upper and/or lower eyelids are tightened to make the patient look more rested and relaxed. Dr. Mani uses Harmonic (ultrasonic) technology to perform both upper and lower blepharoplasty. This technique is much gentler to these delicate tissues and results in a quicker recovery with less swelling and bruising. You are encouraged to ask questions and bring up any concerns you have about surgery. More about Eyelid Surgery Eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at our accredited surgical facility. Typically, local anesthesia and sedation medications are administered; general anesthesia is very rarely used. If Dr. Mani takes the traditional approach, he will make the surgical incisions either in the natural crease of the upper lid or along the lash line. Through the incisions, Dr. Mani will remove excess fat and skin, and tighten the muscles and remaining skin. Alternatively, Dr. Mani could use the transconjunctival approach and make an incision in the lower lid to remove excess fat (not skin). After making the necessary modifications, Dr. Mani will close the incisions with small sutures. Recovering from Eyelid Surgery After your procedure, the eye area will have some swelling and bruising, and vision might be blurry for a few days. These symptoms are temporary and usually resolve within 10 days. Dr. Mani will follow up with you to remove your stitches and check your healing progress. He will let you know when you can return to work, exercise and your normal activities. Eyelid surgery will not stop the aging process. Eventually, everyone will have visible wrinkles around their eyes. However, eyelid surgery will immediately reduce the most obvious signs of aging. Also, it is unlikely that undereye bags or puffiness will return after the lift is performed, because the fat will have been removed. • Botox

  Botox is one of the most popular injectable treatments in the world. It is commonly used to smooth wrinkles for a younger, fresher looking face. Patients love Botox because it is non-surgical and minimally invasive, and produces noticeable yet subtle cosmetic improvement. Very small amounts of Botox will be strategically injected into the facial muscles that contract to cause wrinkles. As the product is injected into the skin, you may feel a slight stinging sensation, but it will not be painful. The number of injections will depend on the size of the treatment area and the extent of correction needed. After the injections, you may be advised to apply ice to the treatment area. You should be able to return to your normal activities almost immediately. Slight bruising or redness is possible, but these side effects will fade quickly. You must avoid pressing on or massaging the treatment area, as this could cause the product to migrate and lead to complications (in the worst case, facial paralysis). Results and Maintenance from Facial Injections After Botox treatment, your skin will look smoother and rejuvenated. With fewer wrinkles and creases, you will appear more awake, rested and younger. When Dr. Mani is finished making the necessary surgical modifications, he will close the incisions with sutures and place fluffy bandages. Preparing for Abdominoplasty Surgery During consultation, Dr. Mani and our team will take down your complete medical history and conduct a careful examination to get a clear picture of your current health status. You should give Dr. Mani a list of all over-the-counter and prescription medications you take, and disclose any previous abdominal surgeries. Once you have scheduled your surgery date, you will receive detailed instructions that explain how to prepare. You will need to avoid certain medications (e.g., aspirin) that could raise the risk of complications. You should also get plenty of rest and eat nutritious meals to ensure your body is at its peak condition going into surgery. Tummy Tuck Procedural Details Tummy tuck is performed on an outpatient basis. Anesthesia is used for your complete comfort. Depending on the degree of correction necessary, surgery could take two to five hours. Dr. Mani will begin surgery by making a U-shaped incision from hipbone to hipbone (right above the pubic hairline). This incision will be placed low, so that any scarring will be concealed beneath underwear or a bikini. Dr. Mani will usually also make a second incision encircling the navel. The skin will then be separated from the abdominal wall to enable Dr. Mani to make the necessary surgical modifications. He will repair weakened or separated abdominal muscles and place internal sutures to hold them in place. He will remove excess skin and fat, and re-drape the remaining abdominal skin more tightly over the abdomen. He will also reconstruct the navel. When Dr. Mani is finished, he will close the incisions with sutures and apply firm elastic bandages to the area. He may place drains to eliminate fluid buildup during recovery. Tummy Tuck Recovery Bruising and swelling are common immediately following tummy tuck surgery. Any discomfort can be alleviated with oral pain medication as prescribed by Dr. Mani. Our team will provide detailed instructions for caring for the incisions, changing the dressings and showering after surgery. A support garment may be required to support the abdominal tissues as they heal. During your recovery, Dr. Mani will follow up with you several times to check your healing progress. He will remove your surface stitches five to seven days after surgery. He will advise when to return to work, exercise and other normal activities. Implant type: Implants have an outer silicone shell filled with either saline or silicone material. Saline implants contain a sterile saltwater solution, and silicone implants contain a thick, viscous silicone gel material. Dr. Mani uses silicone implants in the great majority of cases. The majority of women and physicians feel that silicone implants look and feel more like natural breast tissue. The safety profile of both silicone and saline implants is very similar and has been well-studied. Implant shape: Implants come in teardrop and round shapes. Round shapes are fuller on top and produce more cleavage or a “push-up bra” result. Teardrop shapes are sloped, with more volume on the bottom, to resemble the curve of a natural breast. Implant size: Implants can be filled to various capacities, depending on your desired results. Some women want conservatively sized implants for a natural-looking result, while others prefer a more dramatic enhancement. Dr. Mani measures implant size in cubic centimeters (cc’s) instead of cup size, since cup sizes can vary wildly between bra brands. Keep in mind that large implants require more natural breast tissue to conceal the edges. Implant texture: Implants have a smooth or textured surface. Textured implants are less likely to move around within the breast pocket. Dr. Mani has also found that textured implants have a lower rate of capsular contracture. Incision pattern: Implants can be placed through an incision around the areola-nipple complex, underneath the breast crease, in the armpit or through the belly button. Although some degree of scarring is unavoidable, Dr. Mani will place the incisions as inconspicuously as possible to minimize scarring. Implant placement: Implants are placed either above or below the pectoralis (chest) muscle, depending on several factors. When the implants are placed sub-muscularly, there is a lower chance of capsular contracture, mammography is more reliable and there is a reduced risk of visible or palpable implant edges. Dr. Mani will review your options and help you decide which placement and type of implant is best suited to your personal breast augmentation goals. Breast Augmentation Procedure Details Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that begins with anesthesia. General anesthesia is typically the best option for breast enlargement patients, so they are asleep and at ease during the surgery. Dr. Mani will make the surgical incision in the pre-determined location, which may be along the crease under the breast or the areola edge around the nipple. Dr. Mani creates a small pocket in the natural breast tissue and carefully inserts and positions the chosen breast implant. The incisions are closed with sutures, surgical tape or skin adhesive and dressed, and then a supportive bra is placed around the breasts to aid healing.

You will be asked about previous surgeries, the medications you take and your health history. You will also be asked about your expectations and ideal results. Dr. Mani will describe the approach he plans to take with your case. After scheduling your procedure, you will receive instructions to prepare for the day of surgery. For example, you will be given a list of medications to avoid (aspirin, blood thinners) that could increase the surgical risks. If you smoke, you will need to quit several weeks prior to surgery. Beast Reduction Surgical Details Breast reduction is performed as an outpatient procedure at our accredited surgical facility. You will receive anesthesia medications for your comfort. Dr. Mani will select an incision pattern based on the size of your breasts, the degree of sagging and the position of your nipple-areola complex. The incisions may be made in one of the following configurations: Around the perimeter of the areola Around the perimeter of the areola and extending vertically down to the breast crease Another common breast reduction incision is the anchor pattern, which includes the vertical incision plus a horizontal incision in the breast crease. Dr. Mani does not use this approach, as he is able to achieve superior results with fewer incisions via the vertical or minimal-incision techniques. Through the incision, Dr. Mani will remove excess breast tissue, fat and skin. He will then reshape the remaining tissue to form a breast mound that is more proportional to the rest of the body. The nipple and areola may be moved to a higher location on the breast. Finally, Dr. Mani will close the incisions with sutures, dress the incisions and place a supportive garment around the breasts. Drains may be placed to eliminate fluid buildup during recovery. Recovering from Breast Reduction The breasts will be sore, swollen and bruised immediately following surgery; these side effects are only temporary and will subside with time. Any pain or discomfort can be alleviated with oral medication as prescribed by Dr. Mani. As your breasts heal, you need to avoid any strenuous movement or activity that could cause a post-operative complication: this includes lifting heavy objects or participating in aerobic exercises. Liposuction Surgical Details Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis at our accredited surgical facility. General anesthesia will be administered prior to surgery. Depending on the number of treatment areas, the procedure can take an hour or more. Dr. Mani will make small (less than half of an inch) incisions in the treatment area(s). He will insert a thin, hollow tube called a cannula through the incisions and move it back and forth to break up the fatty tissue. Then, the fat is removed from the body using gentle suction. Dr. Mani will close the incisions with sutures and place a special surgical garment that provides support to the newly contoured tissues. Recovering from Liposuction Swelling and bruising are common after liposuction and will subside within approximately two weeks. It is also normal for the incision site to feel numb, burn or tingle. The support garment will help apply pressure, minimize swelling and assist in the retraction of the skin. In the beginning of your recovery, you will need to refrain from strenuous activity as your body heals. You should take short walks at first and slowly increase your activity level until resuming full activity two to four weeks after surgery. Patients heal at a different pace but generally return to office work three to five days after surgery and physically demanding jobs 10 to 14 days after surgery. Avoid sun exposure until post-operative bruising has resolved; decreased sensation can make it more likely to become sunburned. Liposuction Results You will see results almost immediately, and they will improve as the swelling subsides. You will feel leaner, more attractive and more confident with your new curves and contours. You may find that you prefer wearing more body-conscious clothing styles. Liposuction results are permanent. If you were to gain a significant amount of weight in the future, you may see rippling in the treated area, depending on your skin elasticity. To maintain your results, stay at a stable weight. Liposuction scars may appear red and possibly raised for 8 to 12 weeks following surgery; then they will become pale, flat and soft.
