Zoom!® teeth whitening is a teeth bleaching technology which can help you acquire teeth up to eight times lighter than they are now in a single office visit. Dr. Toni Henderson will coat the enamel of your teeth with a whitening gel and then heat them using a special lamp. The heat will break down the gel, allowing oxygen into the hard part of the teeth. The oxygen harmlessly bleaches the teeth, drastically reducing the appearance of tobacco, wine, tea, coffee, and soda stains. Some patients may not be candidates for Zoom!® teeth whitening, including women who are pregnant, people who are sensitive to light, patients involved in photo-chemotherapy treatments, and/or patients who have been diagnosed with melanoma. Opalescence Take-Home Whitening Trays For bleaching done at home, at your convenience, Dr. Henderson will make a custom made bleaching tray that fits on your teeth. She will instruct you on how to place the gel in the trays and how to wear them. You may wear them during the day or sleep with them overnight. The trays work great alone but can also serve as a follow up to in-office bleaching. Having the trays at home will allow touch-ups when ever you feel the need to whiten your teeth again. Porcelain Veneers Over time, teeth can become chipped, stained, and misaligned in ways that can affect the look of your smile as well as your oral health. Porcelain veneers, available at our Beverly Hills practice, are thin layers of durable porcelain that are customized to fit directly over the tooth. Porcelain veneers require less removal of the tooth's surface than a full porcelain crown, and are tinted to match the color of your teeth. Dr. Toni Henderson will add a special liquid to provide a base for the tooth bonding resin. This liquid will allow the resin (composite) to adhere to the tooth. Periodontal (gum) issues are also looked for in teeth cleanings. One of the most common conditions affecting the mouth is periodontal disease. If the gums aren't properly taken care of, it can not only lead to tooth loss, but to general health problems as well, including heart disease and stroke. Periodontal disease is often caused by bacteria that infect the soft tissue of the gums. Early warning signs of periodontal disease may include swollen, inflamed, and bleeding gums. Dr. Toni Henderson utilizes arestin, an antibiotic used in conjunction with scaling and root planing to treat periodontal disease. Scaling removes tartar and plaque from the gums. As always, the best way to prevent periodontal disease is to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day to prevent the formation of plaque. Radiographs (X-Rays) Dental X-ray examinations provide valuable information that your dentist could not collect otherwise. With the help of radiographs (X-rays), Dr. Henderson can look at what is happening beneath the visible oral tissues. X-rays pose a far smaller risk than many undetected and untreated dental problems. If you are a new patient, the Dr. Henderson will recommend a full set of radiographs to determine the present status of your mouth and to help analyze changes that may occur later. If you have had recent radiographs at your previous dentist, Dr. Henderson may ask you to have the radiographs forwarded. The schedule for needing radiographs at recall visits varies according to your age, risk for disease and signs and symptoms. Recent films may be needed to detect new cavities, or to determine the status of gum disease or for evaluation of growth and development. Children may need X-rays more often than adults. This is because their teeth and jaws are still developing, making them more likely to be affected by tooth decay than adults.
